Cocos Island: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Expedition led by Goldman Environmental Prize Winners

Venture to one of the most extraordinary diving destinations on Earth.   • Carlos Mallo Molina

    Carlos Mallo Molina is the CEO and founder of Innoceana, a nonprofit organization active in both the Canary Islands and Costa Rica that bridges science, education, and technology to protect the ocean.

  • Randall Arauz

    Randall Arauz is a passionate conservationist famous for fighting against shark finning, has been advocating for critically endangered sea turtles and sharks—and improving Costa Rica’s environmental laws—for over 30 years.

  • Michael Sutton

    Michael is a respected environmental conservation leader with extensive experience managing nonprofit organizations, influencing public policy, advocating for natural resources, and guiding successful philanthropic efforts.

An Intimate, Curated Adventure

This private voyage is limited to just 20 guests aboard the Cocos Island Aggressor/Okeanos III. Each day will feature up to three unforgettable dives at iconic sites such as Dirty Rock, Alcyone Seamount, and Manuelita Deep, where hammerheads and Galapagos sharks cruise cleaning stations. On shore, guests will explore lush waterfalls and ranger stations, learning first hand about the island’s unique ecosystem and conservation challenges. Evening presentations and conversations with Carlos, Randall and Michael.

Safety and Preparedness
Our vessel host prioritizes guest safety with licensed, highly trained crews and fully compliant maritime operations. Redundant power and water systems, emergency communications, smoke alarms, and regular safety drills ensure readiness in every situation.

Professional dive guides certified by PADI, SSI, or equivalent organizations lead all underwater activities, supported by on-board oxygen and emergency response protocols. Annual reviews of storm and evacuation plans keep staff prepared, so guests can explore with confidence.

Cocos Island Dive Expedition Itinerary

December 5–15, 2026

December 5 – Arrival and Embarkation
Morning shuttle from San José to Puntarenas with pick-ups at designated hotels. Board the Cocos Island Aggressor/ Okeanos III by early afternoon and set sail for Cocos Island. Evening welcome dinner onboard.

December 6 – At Sea
Day at sea crossing to Cocos. Time to relax, connect, and prepare for diving.

December 7 – Arrival & First Dives
Arrive in the early morning. After a dive and safety briefing, explore Chatham Bay (test dive, coral gardens), Manuelita Coral Garden, and Manuelita Deep, known for hammerhead shark cleaning stations.

December 8 – Classic Sites
Dives at Dirty Rock (hammerheads, schools of jacks), Punta María (Galapagos sharks, pinnacles), and Viking Island (colorful coral formations).

December 9 – Legendary Spots
Morning dives at Alcyone (a Jacques Cousteau–discovered seamount, hammerhead schools) and Submerged Rock (pinnacle with swim-through). Afternoon at Pájara Island (coral reef shallows).

December 10 – Southern Wonders
Explore Big Dos Amigos (dramatic swim-throughs, strong currents), Little Dos Amigos (hammerhead and Galapagos shark encounters), and Pan de Azúcar (fringing coral reef).

December 11 – Diving & Waterfall Visit
Return to Dirty Rock and Punta María in the morning, then visit the iconic Wafer Bay waterfall before an afternoon dive at Viking Island.

December 12 – Diving & Ranger Station Visit
Dive Alcyone and Submerged Rock, followed by a land excursion to the Cocos Island Ranger Station. Afternoon dive at Pájara Island.

December 13 – Final Dives & Departure
Morning dives at Dirty Rock, Manuelita Deep, and Manuelita Coral Garden before beginning the return journey to the mainland.

December 14 – At Sea
Full day crossing back. Time for rest, reflection, and connecting with fellow divers.

December 15 – Return to San José
Early morning arrival in Puntarenas, with shuttles back to San José hotels and airport.
